Turn Trussville Pink is a community-based fundraiser for breast cancer research. Turn Trussville Pink began at Hewitt-Trussville High School in 2006 and has since grown to encompass businesses, churches and schools throughout the city. In 2010, citizens of Trussville founded The Audie and Kathy White Foundation (AKW), an all volunteer organization working in partnership with the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. Each year, AKW organizes a series of “Turn Trussville Pink” events and special fundraisers across Trussville and the surrounding communities to raise money for and awareness about breast cancer research. In 2013, AKW became the second largest third party donor to the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center, annually contributing tens of thousands of dollars to cutting edge cancer research.
