Kathy S. White (November 1952 ? August 2018)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kathy White, the co-creator and long-time coordinator of Turn Trussville Pink. After her initial diagnosis of breast cancer in 2001, Kathy worked for nearly 20 years to make a difference in the lives of others living with breast cancer. Kathy did not view her diagnosis of cancer as a ?battle? and did not view her death as a ?lost fight?. She ran her race with endurance, and told others to simply ?believe?, even in the midst of pain. Turn Trussville Pink exists because of her energy, enthusiasm, and creativity. She will forever be missed.
About Turn Trussville Pink
Turn Trussville Pink began in 2006 when Hewitt-Trussville High School ?turned pink? to honor three teachers undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Over the last 12 years, TTP has grown to envelop the entire City of Trussville, in the process raising money for breast cancer research at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. In 2010, encouraged by the growth of Turn Trussville Pink, members of the Trussville community joined together to create the Audie and Kathy White Cancer Research Foundation (AKW) to facilitate future growth. Over the last 8 years, AKW has never paid a salary (it is all-volunteer), but it has raised tens of thousands for cancer research. We believe that research provides hope to those undergoing treatment for cancer; it is our only collective hope for a future without cancer. Will you join us?
